How to Edit on FCPX with ‘Unlimited’ Storage
So, you just switched over to editing video on your laptop, however, you’re quickly finding out that there's not enough storage space. In this blog we teach you how to edit with unlimited storage space.
Let’s talk about how to speed up your workflow in Final Cut Pro X. How do you increase the amount of storage space you use while editing video so it is this fine piece of equipment? I'm glad you asked. An external hard drive is simply a high capacity storage device and the perfect tool for the job. You can pick one of these things up for next to nothing. Now this requires no further explanation so let’s go ahead and jump into Final Cut Pro X and learn how to edit with unlimited storage space.
Step 1 plug in your hard drive.
Step 2 create a folder where you want the project to be saved.
Start by clicking on the hard drive icon and create a folder where you want to store the project. Understand where you're going to store the project.
Step 3 pull up Final Cut Pro X.
Pull up Final Cut Pro X? That was easy.
Step 4 create a new library.
To create a new library, go to the top and click file, click new, and go over to library. You will then be prompted to determine where you would like to store your project. Go to your storage drive, click on the folder you created earlier, and click where you'd like to store it and then click Save.
Step number 5, change your storage location.
To change your storage settings go to the top right where it says modify settings. When you click on it, you'll be prompted with media, motion content, catch and backups.
Click on media, click on choose, and then it's gonna prompt you where you would like to store it. Again, go to your hard drive, go to the folder that you would like to store, and click choose. Next catch. Go to choose. Go to the folder you would like to store it and click choose. As this is getting repetitive you then you go to the hard drive and back to the folder you like to store it and click Choose. OKAY!
Now you are all, set it's time to start editing by clicking new project. You are now using only the storage space from your hard drive and none from your laptop. Now you're able to edit with unlimited storage space, ‘kind of’. Well, that's all for us today.
